A Summer of Firsts: Park City

"Live as though you were living a second time, and as though you had acted wrongly the first time."
~Viktor Frankl

I decided to do a little splurge for once.  It was quite an adventure.  I decided I wanted to go to Park City and stay the weekend.  I've been to Park City many times, but only for the day.  Then I would come home and sleep in my own bed.  I had always wanted to experience it at night and so I did.

I arrived on a Friday night and got checked into my hotel.  It was a junior suite right on historic main street.  My balcony opens up right onto main street so that I could sit out on my chair and watch the people walking around. The room had a full kitchen, 2 tvs, a queen bed, but still had a rustic quality to it.  Almost like a cabin feel. As you can see, it's pretty charming as far as little historic places on main go.  I wanted something homey.  And you can see my balcony pictured below.   It really was a good place and I really enjoyed staying there.

After checking in, I took advantage of the discount coupon that they gave me with my check in package and headed to the Butcher's Chop House (a great steak house right on historic main street).  To start off the first meal of my vacation, I had some lovely hummus and various spreads.  It was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had.  Then for the main dish (pictured to the left) I had a beautiful filet mignon served with sautéed spinach and garlic mushrooms.  It was certainly one of the top steaks I've ever had in my life. It was so juicy and tender. mmmmmmm.  For dessert I had myself a nice creme brule.  Now, this may be surprising, but it was my first ever creme brule.  I enjoyed it mucho.

On Saturday, I began my day by sitting in a little cafe on main street and having my simple breakfast.  I watched the shops slowly open and the people begin to awaken and wander about. I talked with some of the locals, a  went to the outlets in Park City.  I bought myself a mandolin, but I think that's it.  It was a great time.  I just walked around and enjoyed all the shops.  Then I went next door and saw Snow White and the Huntsman.  Wow, Kirsten Stewart is awful... but Charlize Theron is freakin incredible...haha.  After that, I went home and got dressed up and went over to Vuz and had an incredible dinner there.  It began with rosemary flat-bread and tapenade.  Then, I had an absolutely incredible slow braised lamb shank served with garlic potatos, apples, Brussels spouts, pancetta, and golden turnips. It was absolutely fantastic.  I do love me some good food.  After returning to Park City, I wandered about main street for a while in the dark--looking at everyone in the clubs and restaurants--and just enjoying the atmosphere.  I returned to my room, and sat up on my balcony and just watched the night life and enjoyed the crisp cool night air.

On Sunday, as I was walking to check out of my room, I realized that there is a huge market on Sunday all down main street.  So, I hurriedly packed my stuff, checked out, loaded up, and decided to enjoy the market.  Something about those street market makes me feel like I'm home and going to the Saturday market  with my family.  I wandered through the various booths, and partook of the various samples.  As the normal section of the market concluded then the farmer's market took over.  Seeing all of the veggies, cheeses, honeys, fruits, and breads.  It was an absolutely wonderful conclusion to a wonderful weekend.
